Telstra CU supports National Cyber Security Awareness Week, 30 May – 3 JuneNational Cyber Security Awareness Week 2011, 30 May – 3 June, is an Australian Government initiative, held annually in partnership with industry, community and consumer groups and state and territory governments.The aim of National Cyber Security Awareness Week is to help Australians understand cyber security risks as and educate all users on the simple steps they can take to protect their personal and financial information online. |
| Telstra CU joins around 150 government agencies, industry groups, and community and consumer organisations that are collaborating to help raise awareness of online security risks and the steps consumers can take to protect themselves online. Cyber security is relevant to every Australian internet user. It’s very important to take these simple steps to ensure you, your family, your business and all your personal information is protected. Remember – your personal details should remain private, never give them out online or over the phone in cold calls. |
| National Cyber Security Awareness Week 2011 promotes eight simple tips for better online security; so make sure you take these easy steps to ensure you’re safe when online: |
| 1. Install and renew your security software and set it to scan regularly; |
| 2. Turn on automatic updates on all your software, including your operating system and other applications; |
| 3. Think carefully before you click on links and attachments, particularly in emails and on social networking sites; |
| 4. Regularly adjust your privacy settings on social networking sites; |
| 5. Report or talk to someone about anything online that makes you uncomfortable or threatened; go to www.staysmartonline.gov.au; |
| 6. Stop and think before you post any photos or financial or personal information about yourself, your friends or family; |
| 7. Use strong passwords and change them at least twice a year; |
